2020 posed new challenges for nearly every industry, with small businesses in particular having to find new and creative ways to succeed and survive during the pandemic. Mindspike Design stepped up to meet some of those challenges head-on when we were tasked with a rebranding project for Boom Coffee, an independent coffee distributer with roots in Milwaukee. What began as a couple of clever, colorful coffee labels intended to boost sales evolved into an entire brand and design overhaul, with a new custom-built website, new illustrations, new labels and an ever-expanding Signature Series coffee line.

Big rebranding projects often have humble beginnings. In the case of Boom Coffee, three original new packaging illustrations spawned a creative avalanche that resulted in over 100 custom coffee labels – each with updated graphics and original drawings – a user-friendly and completely redesigned website (custom built on WordPress), posters and other printed materials, and a pop culture-inspired signature coffee line where we could really unleash our visionary genius!

In the end, all of our hard work paid off. The 2020 rebranding campaign and website upgrade resulted in an increase in online sales and visibility for Boom Coffee, while the colorful, eye-catching Signature Series generated interest and increased in-store sales. Mindspike never backs down from a challenge, and we’re grateful to have been given this unique opportunity to help a small business stay afloat and rise above the difficulties of the past year.
